Stubble in the backyard, week 1

October 18

Even though the stalks looked pretty dry before harvest, you can see a faint tinge of green in what remains of this one. It should be exciting to see how the stalk stubble of this plant decomposes over the next seven months! Thanks for visiting!

Yes indeedy, *exciting* is the very word that popped into my mind at the prospect of viewing your diligent documentation;)

And in other *exciting* news: I hear tell that our farmer friend will be harvesting his corn on this Thursday!!! My front porch and I can hardly wait! Yippee!

  2. That's some super-vibrant looking decomp! Clearly, the stubble report promises to be just as spine-tingling as tracking corn growth.

  4. Looks like you have a pretty view on the other side of the cornfield. It's always interesting watching the farmers harvest their crops. I remember watching the little field mice scatter everywhere as those big combines came across those fields. Thanks for sharing the progress of 'your' field.

  5. Thank you Victoria. As much as I enjoy looking at the corn, I also enjoy the view when the horizon is six miles away.

I don't recall seeing any mice scattering in front of the combine, but our cats have been very busy in the field all summer....
