Corn in the backyard 2010, weeks 1, 2, and 3

We happened to be in Arizona when the corn in the backyard made its first appearance, but the Ryken family stepped up in our absence and contributed to the kind of post that earns awards for our blog. Enjoy!

  1. Well my personal thanks go out to the Rykens. What a catastrophe it would have been for all of us- your devoted and loyal readers- to have missed the beginnings of what promises to be another year of riveting corn-growth posts. I know they are a high point of my summer weeks, that's for sure!

Welcome home... hope your trip was exciting in the good way and uneventful in the good way as well☺

  2. I must say.. crops are doing excellent this year...

Also, I don't know if you heard anything about the twin row corn planting a couple people were talking about on Monday night, but Gregg Sauder talked a bit about it when we were at work, and he said he was very surprised at the number of people talking about it this year, because they have been planting corn that way for about 9 years now! Apparently it is supposed to get a higher yield per acre vs. the normal spacing.

But there is only about two planting-implement companies that make planters which can support the twin row planting.
