Kitchen makeover (on a small scale)

Karen has had a vision for more interesting drawer pulls in the kitchen since the day we moved in. The octagonal shaped knobs you see below are not offensive, but not quite as organic and whimsical as my wife would prefer. So a year and a half ago we purchased some new pulls and handles and replaced a few of the octagons to try out the new style.

A year and a half later, we were still "evaluating" Karen's choice. Okay, I admit, Karen was immediately ready to get rid of all the octagons, and I was the one still "evaluating." Only when Karen threatened to take all the new pulls back to the store did I find the motivation to sweep the kitchen clean of octagons and welcome a new look.

Before we get to the new look, I have to show you the cool depth gauge that came with my cordless drill that allowed me to counterbore all the screw heads to the same depth. It was very nice to confidently drill the counterbores without fear of being too deep or too shallow.

Finally, a glimpse of the pulls that found their way on to all the drawers, and some of the larger doors.

Here's a close-up so you can appreciate the natural, organic, anti-geometric, viny look of the new pulls.

And here's a look at the hanging leafy fob pulls that serve as cabinet door pulls. I was afraid they'd be hard to grab and not as functional as the octagons, but I think they grow on you...
